CASSI Data Usage Guidelines

This page states the "Usage Guidelines" for the CAS Source Index (CASSI) Search Tool. For the purposes of these Usage Guidelines, the terms "You" and "User" refer to anyone who is accessing, viewing, or otherwise using CASSI.

By accessing, viewing, or otherwise using CASSI, you agree to abide by these Usage Guidelines. If you are not willing to abide by these Usage Guidelines, you must immediately exit the CASSI website and you may not access, view, or otherwise use CASSI.

Acceptable Site Use

You agree to use CASSI only for your own internal business purposes.

Prohibited Site Use

You are not permitted to use CASSI except as specifically set forth herein.

You are prohibited from incorporating CASSI into your own products and services for redistribution.

You are prohibited from modifying, adapting, altering, decompiling, or creating derivative works of the material contained in or on CASSI.

You are prohibited from using automated programs for systematic retrieval of CASSI content to create or compile, directly or indirectly, a collection, compilation, database, or directory. An example of automated retrieval is a script written to extract and download CASSI data in batches.

You agree not to monitor or copy, or allow others to monitor or copy, CASSI web pages or the content included therein. You also agree not to "frame" or otherwise simulate the appearance or function of CASSI.

Warranty and Liability Disclaimers

ACS provides CASSI on an "as is" and "as available" basis. ACS and Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS®) expressly disclaim any and all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, with respect to the information provided on or in CASSI and your use of that information.

Further, ACS and CAS do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of any information contained herein. Neither ACS nor CAS will be liable for damages of any kind arising from your use of CASSI.

Copyright and Proprietary Rights

The copyright and title to all CASSI data are in and will remain with the American Chemical Society (ACS) as owner. The entire contents of CASSI are copyrighted by the ACS under the copyright laws of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code).

ACS grants no copyright or ownership interests to User for any of the material and proprietary information referred to herein and belonging to ACS. You agree not to remove or obscure copyright notices appearing anywhere in or on CASSI.

Privacy

Access to CASSI is contingent upon accepting and keeping persistent "cookies." A cookie is a small file that your Web browser places on your computer's hard drive to identify you as a user. Cookies are used by this website to identify your session to the server and enable ACS to track your usage of CASSI. Cookies will not corrupt, damage or destroy your computer or computer files and ACS does not share User information with third parties.

You may disable the cookie function on your browser or erase the contents in your cookies file. However, please bear in mind that retaining persistent cookies aids in optimal CASSI performance. Users who delete persistent cookies will have to re-enter information for each site visit and may experience decreased CASSI navigability.

Governing Law

Your use of CASSI and these Usage Guidelines are governed by and will be construed in accordance with the Laws of the District of Columbia, USA.
